Merry Gifts Quilt

Hi friends,

So, if you have been a blog follower for more than a couple of years this quilt might look familiar to you - the Merry Gifts quilt!

The Merry Gifts quilt pattern can be found in the book by Sherri Falls called Holiday Wishes

Oh this was and still is one of my most favorite makes to date. It has been sitting in a large plastic “work in progress” bin for a couple of years just waiting to be quilted up.
I used a selection of colors that I love to decorate with for the holidays and kept it pretty simple in solids and doing a light to dark with the blocks. The one print I used is an older Cotton and Steel basic called Sprinkles in black. This fabric makes me think of snow falling on a dark night.

The solids I used are Kona solids by Robert Kaufman:

  • Grasshopper

  • Melon

  • Medium Gray

  • Ash

  • Pool

  • Cyan

  • Coal

  • Wasabi

  • Watermelon

  • Ultra Marine

  • Lime

  • Lipstick

  • Black & White

I love how simple the package blocks are and would love to make them as individual pillows one year. Wouldn’t this also make a fun celebration quilt - I’m thinking birthday quilt, and when it’s your birthday month you get it all to yourself!

I kept thinking I will send it in to be long arm quilted and then I remembered one of my favorite stitches my Janome 6700P does. The wavy curvy stitch, and not only was it fun to quilt - I think it turned out quite nice! I shared some curvy quilting tips in my Instagram stories the other day and have them saved in highlights under “Quilting Tips”. I kept my guide bar at a space of 3/4” from the top of the previous curvy line to keep a nice consistent pattern.

Yes, we still don’t quite have anything up on our walls yet. One of these days! Until then we have our Lego Christmas village in the background for your entertainment.

Another reason it has taken me so long to quilt this one is I just NEVER have backing fabric in stock or the right amount. I hit up a Target clearance end cap for this adorable black and white gingham. Fabric at Target? YES! Its a 100% cotton sheet - the quality was amazing and you have not only the flat sheet to use (no seam matching) but you can chop up the fitted sheet and the pillow cases for material as well! Again you would want to definitely make sure it’s 100% cotton otherwise you will end up with something that has microfiber in it and it will end up a peely mess.

Thanks for stopping by today friends! I am hoping to get back into blogging more instead of just sharing some quick photos on Instagram. It’s so nice to be able to talk a bit more about a project and share more photos.

Hope you enjoyed today’s project and be sure to check out Sherri’s book for this and many more amazing holiday quilts! Comment below if you have any questions - always happy to chat 💕
