Hi friends,
Today I am excited to share with you a fun holiday version of the Illusion Quilt. The Illusion quilt is a modern pattern that plays off of a checkerboard pattern with a twist. A slight change in the block size lets the movement of color and pattern trick your eyes. This version uses the 14 color layout using fat quarters and really shows off the color palette in the Jolly Darlings and Jolly Basics lines by Ruby Star Society.
I also have this quilt available for purchase! You can find the handmade quilt here in the shop.
The Illusion quilt pattern comes in multiple sizes and three different versions: 2 color, 8 color and 14 color.
Fabric Information:
The Jolly Darlings and Jolly Basics fabric lines by Ruby Star Society came out June 2022, but luckily you can still find it in several shops! You might have to pick up a fat quarter here and there if you are unable to grab an entire FQ bundle.
Illusion fabrics:
- My favorite sweater - dark ruby
- Little deer - ruby
- Add it up - sorbet
- Snowglobes - Jolly
- Tanuki - light peach
- Facets - ruby
- Ornamental - frost
- Spark - Icebox
- Snow babies - icebox
- Twirl - emerald
- Add it up - navy
- Washi tape - navy
- Pixel - navy
Background fabric:
Spark in multi
Binding fabric:
Spark in Navy
Backing fabric:
light gray cotton flannel
For the backing I wanted to stick with something cozy and a nice neutral color since the quilt top is kind of busy. I settled on a nice thick cotton flannel in a light gray. I think the cream thread I used for the quilting blends in with that nicely. Once this is washed it will get nice and crinkly cozy - my favorite!
Quilting Details:
For this quilt I decided to do a curvy stitch that is on my Janome machine, I did the max width at 9, and stitch length at 3. I used my walking foot with the guide attachment with a spacing of 1". I used the guide bar along the top of the curved line as I added each curvy line. I love how it turned out and looks great against all of the straight lined piecing.
