Hi friends,
Today I am sharing a Friday Finish with you all - remember that Liberty Hexies post I shared a couple of weeks ago? Well we have a finished Hexie pillow!
This Floral Hexie Pillow follows the directions in the back of the Hexie Pillow pattern, did you know there was an alternate layout included?
I love the modern take on the grandmothers flower garden pattern that is one of the more common English paper piecing patterns for hexagons. I knew that the beautiful pastel floral prints on the Liberty fabric would be the perfect match.
For the background I chose a beautiful denim chambray by Moda called Royal Chambray, with a white thread for the quilting to add a bit of dimension and stand out a bit.
The pillow finishes at 18" x 18" square - and I use my favorite 20" feather filled pillows from Ikea! The larger size really makes for a nice dense pillow shape.
You can find my previous post here with more information on the Liberty fabrics used: a beautiful Halcyon Daze bundle from Alice Caroline fabrics.
Tana Lawn fabrics are a bit more delicate and softer than traditional quilting cotton - but are still a great material for hexies!
If you are new to making Hexies I have a video below on my favorite way to thread baste them! I like working with 2.5" squares, especially with finer fabrics like Liberty because of the extra bit of fabric to work with.
If you would like to make your own Floral Hexie Pillow you can find all of the instructions needed for Modern Hexies in my pattern Hexie Pillow - and this particular floral layout is at the end of the pattern!
Get a copy of the Hexie Pillow pattern in PDF ready to download format or Printed copy.
For the envelope backing I chose a matching pink Hole Punch Dot fabric in Gem by Ruby Star Society - adds just a bit of pattern and matches the fabrics beautifully.
Thanks for stopping by the blog today friends, and if you make a floral hexie pillow please share on social media by tagging me and including #modernhandcraftpatterns for a chance to be featured in my Maker Spotlight!
Happy Sewing,
Nicole
