Hi friends,
When I think of Spring projects I picture florals and pastels, so it's a perfect time to finally share my Spring inspired Checkers quilt - Liberty + Chambray version!

This Checkers quilt has a combo of beautiful light blue Chambray and Liberty florals from the Emily Belle line of quilting cottons for Riley Blake.

The Checkers quilt is a modern quilt pattern that has instructions for four sizes: Crib, Throw, Bed and King. The pattern includes instructions for three different layouts as well. This Checkers quilt is the Crib size that measures 40" x 48".
- Multi Color - this Liberty + Chambray version, fat eighth and fat quarter friendly.
- 2 Color - Choose yardage (you will have two colors for your background checkerboard and then two colors for your light and dark half circles.)
- Scrappy - Choose fabrics from your scrap bin or utilize a layer cake or two for a fun and scrappy Checkers look.

New to sewing half circles? The pattern includes a link to a video all about sewing half circle blocks, coloring pages in each size and step by step directions with colorful diagrams.

I did make this quilt almost a couple of years ago - yes I am really on top of blogging my finishes, but some of the fabrics are still available or you can easily swap out some of the options.

Binding - Blue Stitch Chambray in Light Indigo
Backing - Cream and dusty blue flannel (info unknown on source)

When planning your Checkers quilt and choosing fabrics it's nice to have a high contrast between your colors to really make your checkerboard stand out - this is why I chose a solid white and a blue chambray material that coordinated with the many colors of the Emily Belle line.

For the Checkers - pair up fabrics that have a lighter and darker tone - in similar colors if possible. This gives the illusion of transparency.
Quilting Information:

I love the curvy stitch on my Janome 6700p so I thought it would look cute with the curves of the Checkers blocks. This is setting 8 on my machine - I use my walking foot with my guidebar set at 1" spacing for my lines. Adjust your stitch length to around 3 and the width to the max of 9 to get the nice wide waves.
I used a white thread to blend in nicely with my checkerboard backing.
