To celebrate the update of the Big Love Quilt / Tutorial I am sharing a version I made a couple of years ago using the most cheerful selection of Alison Glass fabrics!
(I used my trusty phone tripod and bluetooth clicker to get most of these shots, you can find that here in my Amazon shop - with other photography / quilting stuff I love!)
Big Love quilt is a free quilt tutorial I have over on the blog, you can find it here. It's a fantastic "first quilt" - just squares and half square triangles and goes together rather quickly. The throw sizes are manageable for quilting on your home machine.
I have seen several of you make this for Valentines day and it is a very popular quilt to make for a baby shower! Just choose coordinating colors to match the child's room and you have a keepsake the parent with treasure for years. The heart in the middle is large enough to take some really cute month to month baby photos as well.
This version is the Large Throw size which measures 64" x 64".
Fabric information:
I used an assortment of yelllow, orange, purple, and pink Alison Glass prints from the Sun Print 2019 line, you can still find that here. I love using a bright white against these fun colors to really make them pop. To make the larger throw you will need 14 fat quarters for the background.
Sun Print 2019 fabrics:
- Aster
- Gallant
- Admire
- Strawberry
- Sweet
- Sweetheart
- Hearts
- Tart
- Blaze
- Pencil
- Happy
- Sunshine
- Lake Dream
The backing is from a 100% cotton sheet that I found at Target - how perfect did that match?!
Quilting information:
I quilted this using a white thread, in a straight line pattern, spacing at 3/4" wide. I love how crinkly it got after it's first wash. The machine I currently own and love for quilting is the Janome Memory Craft 6700p, I get a lot of questions on what a great machine is for piecing and quilting and this has been my favorite! I began my quilting journey using a Janome Memory Craft 6500 and after working with many different models of Janome machines over the years the 6700p has been my favorite investment.
Thanks for stopping by today friends, I hope you enjoyed this project and will check out the free quilt tutorial if you are looking to make your own.
Happy Sewing!
Nicole
