Hi friends!
Today I am sharing another option that you have with the Asterisks pattern - the 1-color background and 1-color Asterisks version. This makes for a beautiful, minimalist look that makes me think of snowflakes.
The Asterisks pattern lets you play around with the look of your quilt - scrappy, multicolor or the 2 color look like the quilt above. For this smaller throw I had a precut 2 yard section of cuddle that I have been wanting to use on a winter quilt, and the small throw size was the perfect fit!
For this quilt I used Blossom fabric in the color Denim. The blossom line is by Christopher Thompson (aka the Tattooed Quilter) for Riley Blake Designs. For the snowflakes I went with a Robert Kaufman Kona white that I had on hand.
The small throw has the same size Asterisks as the large throw (seen on the cover of the pattern) but with a slightly different layout. This smaller size measures 45” x 63” so its great for a small throw on the couch to cuddle up with, for a child - not too large to carry around with them and for a nursery as a bit larger size that’s perfect for playtime on the floor.
The backing is my most favorite part! Shannon fabrics has a product called Luxe Cuddle Cut 2 yard / Hide Natural. This is one nice large piece that worked perfectly for the smaller throw size of the quilt.
I basted this quilt like I normally would, with a layer of cotton batting, and pin basted. I believe spray basting would work well with this as well if that is your preference.
I quilted this one myself, I did a nice straight line stitch running diagonally across the front using the corners of the squares as my guide. This worked really well to secure the backing cuddle fabric nicely without taking away too much from the look or feel of the natural hide.
The small throw also fits nicely along the end of a full size bed - seen here.
Thanks for stopping by the blog today.
Happy sewing friends!
