Today I am happy to share a new Hexie Pillow creation using a new line by Ruby Star Society called Sketchbook! This fabric line by Alexia Abegg features textures, background and geometric designs that look as though they came straight from a paintbrush, stencil or stamp.
You might have seen my hexie pillow from last week where I used a mini charm pack for my pillow front, you can find that blog post here.
Mini charm packs are the perfect pairing for the Hexie Pillow - or if you have 2.5" square scraps left over from a quilt project, you can use those to create a coordinating pillow!
This pillow was created using this charm pack - a set of 42 - 2.5" squares of Sketchbook.
For the layout I decided on an all over pattern, mixing up all of the colors and patterns.
Materials needed for this project:
- Hexie Pillow Pattern
- Sketchbook Mini Charm pack
- 5/8 yard of fabric for background of pillow front - or piece cut 19" x 19" square - or 1 yard total if using the same fabric for envelope backing following the pattern instructions. background fabric is a washed black bella solid, that almost has a navy look to it.
- 5/8 yard of fabric for the pillow back / Honey Canvas Dahlia Granny Square by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society
- 20" x 20" square of batting
- Coordinating thread
- Aleenes Fabric Fusion
- 1" hexagon paper pieces
For my backing I used a colorful canvas print also by Alexia Abegg's Honey line.
This canvas print is called Honey Canvas Dahlia Granny Square - don't you think the colors are a perfect compliment to the Sketchbook line and the darker background of the pillow?
Added a bright red / orange zipper for a fun pop of color! You can find my zipper tutorial here.
I have this pillow available in my shop if you are interested in scooping this one up. I have a few more fun ones in the work that I will be finishing soon - if there is ever a fabric line you would like to see just let me know!
Thanks for stopping by today - happy sewing!
