Hi friends,
Today I am sharing a Halloween quilt thats just a bit late to the party - but still fun for the Fall season! The Dot + Dash quilt - Noir Version. I was looking to add another Halloween quilt to the house this year for my guest room and was looking for a classy Halloween line in classic colors of orange, black and white. Noir is a line that came out earlier this year by Alli K Design for Moda fabrics, and happened to come as a jelly roll - so a scrappy Dot + Dash quilt was the winner!
The Dot + Dash quilt is one of my favorites to show off a line of fabric that has a nice color flow and large enough pieces to show off cute illustrations. This also is a great quilt for a jelly roll, one jelly roll can make almost all of the sizes! I decided to go with a throw size quilt and add on a row to make it a square - so 6 x 6 layout instead of the 5 x 6 layout (and I still have jelly roll strips leftover!)
The Dot + Dash quilt is also a fun and easy beginner quilt pattern. Sizes available are:
- Baby 38" x 50"
- Throw 62" x 74" ( I added a row and mine measures 74" x 74")
- Twin 74" x 86"
- Full / Queen 86" x 86"
- King 98" x 98"

Noir Fabric Information:
Noir is by Allli K Design for Moda Fabrics. It is a spooky and sophisticated boho line including skulls, ghosts, spiderwebs, snakes and florals in shades of black, white and orange. I chose to use a jelly roll for this project and found some fun striped Halloween fabric for my backing. Linking fabric below.
Dot + Dash: Noir Jelly Roll
Background: Moda Bella Super Black
Backing: Halloween Orange and Black stripe - Joann Fabrics
Binding: leftover jelly roll strips from the Noir line
My number 1 tip for using a jelly roll is to get a lint roller and roll all of the fuzzy raw edges on both sides before unravelling! This will save you a headache once unrolling the fabric strips - they really tend to make a mess.
Making the quilt:
When working with the scrappy layout, I liked to lay out the pieces needed for each block on my work surface to get a nice combo for each strip. This also helped when chain piecing my quilt blocks together.
Working with a design wall is also helpful if possible! When making a scrappy quilt I liked to lay it out as I went to see what combinations of fabric I should use in my next block.
I had enough leftover jelly roll strips along with some strips from my backing material for a fun scrappy binding!
Quilting:
For this quilt I chose a black thread to match my background and backing fabric. Using my walking foot as a guide I did a 1.5" grid quilting.
Finished Quilt:
I was very fortunate to finish the quilt a few weeks ago right when the leaves by our house were changing! Alli K really did a great job on the orange shade she used on the fabric line - it was an exact match for some fall foliage.
I got the quilt all washed up and crinkled and ready for our guest room! Bringing out the holiday decorations every year is just a bit more special when you have some handmade items to enjoy.
