Snowflake Quilt - Buffalo Check Fabric Requirements

Posted by Nicole Daksiewicz on

Hi friends!

I wanted to hop on to give you all a bit more info on the fabric requirements on the Buffalo Check version of the Snowflake quilt since it is not included in the pattern.

Above is the layout I used for the fabric requirements. I chose three fabrics for the background materials: a dark fabric, medium fabric, and light fabric. Make sure that your Snowflake fabric has enough of a contrast from your lightest background fabric so you can see the outline of the shape.

The quilt I mocked up above is using Moda Bella Solids in:

  • Dark fabric: Black

  • Medium fabric: Graphite

  • Light fabric: Zen Grey

  • Snowflake: White

Buffalo Check Fabric Requirements

Background:

  • Dark Fabric (black): 1 yard

  • Medium Fabric (medium gray): 1 3/4 yard

  • Light Fabric (light gray): 1 yard

Snowflake:

  • White: 1 1/2 yard

Cutting Information - Use with Pattern Instructions

Squares:

  • Dark Fabric: 74

  • Medium Fabric: 149

  • Light Fabric: 76

  • Snowflake Fabric: 111

Squares for HST:

  • Dark Fabric: 9

  • Medium Fabric: 18

  • Light Fabric: 9

  • Snowflake Fabric: 36 ( pattern calls for 35, due to different background fabrics this is more)

When planning for the Snowalong I was torn between a neutral black and gray version and this bright pop of red and pink. Here is the other mock up I was thinking about making.

This will also work with printed fabrics that are dark, medium and light, along with different colored snowflakes as well!

Hope this helps you as you plan out your Snowflake Design.

Happy Sewing!

Nicole
