Hi friends,
I am so excited to finally share a quilt pattern that I have been working on since last summer - the Checkers Quilt! Checkers is a traditionally pieced quilt featuring half circle blocks.
When I designed the Checkers quilt I wanted to give an illusion of transparency. I did this by pairing light and dark fabrics with a light and dark background. The idea came about when working on my Palette Picks bundle for Robert Kaufman that is arriving in stores now. This bundle features a fun bold palette, with fabrics that pair up perfectly for this quilt pattern.
You will notice that I chose a bold black and white background for my checkers board and the circle halves overlapping the squares are split up between lighter and darker shades.
Checkers quilt includes instruction for four sizes: Crib, Throw, Bed and King. The pattern includes a link to a video all about sewing half circle blocks, coloring pages in each size and step by step directions with colorful diagrams.
There are a few different ways of making this quilt:
- Multi color - like the cover quilt (fat eighth and fat quarter friendly)
- 2 Color - choose yardage (there are instructions for directional and non-directional fabrics)
- Scrappy - choose fabrics from your scrap bin or utilize a layer cake or two for a fun scrappy Checkers look
2 Color layout using Essex yarn dyed classic woven in small and regular stripe black, I will have a full blog post on this 2 color version on Monday!
