Today I am so excited to share my unconventional mini quilt using a dear friends new fabric line – Blue Carolina! Chris Thompson aka The Tattooed Quilter’s first line for Riley Blake fabrics is a beautiful combination of blues, florals and cute little pups!
You might be wondering what is an unconventional mini quilt? It’s a quilt that takes on a shape not usually seen on a quilt, no squares or rectangles here!
I chose to use a fun triangle block from my friend Rebecca Bryan’s new book Modern Triangles – doubled it up and made a diamond shape!
This was so much fun – and a little tricky with the binding, but once I figured it all out its’s one of my new favorite shapes to work with! For my quilting I added a second layer of cotton batting and used a white Aurifil thread to create some fun matchstick quilting running along the lines of the flying geese.
The extra layer of batting makes the un-quilted areas puff up a little more and add some fun texture.
Be sure to stop by and see all of the other awesome unconventional mini quilts – I for one cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with!
Thanks for stopping by friends,
