Today I am sharing a project from Erin Schlosser’s new book – Sew Home. I met Erin at Glamp Stitchalot last year, she was there assisting with Janome, helping us out with all of the awesome sewing machines we were using that weekend.
I was pretty excited when I heard she was working on a book, and it happens to be a book on decorating your home and not just about quilts – yes!!! I have been needing this for a while.
The book contains several sections:
- Window Treatments
- Linens (think sheets, decorative towels and mats, napkins)
- Storage and Organization
- Walls Floor and Decor
- Outdoor Sewing
I love that all basic decorative elements of the home are covered in this book, all skill levels are welcome too! I found that the project I made was easy enough for beginners so if you are worried about it being too difficult, do not fret.
My project of choice was the Color blocked place mats, the modern design drew me in at first, and then when I started to look at fabrics I chose some Halloween colors to add some fun to my breakfast room area.
This pattern was so much fun you guys, while I was sewing the sections together I was thinking about what Christmas fabrics I am going to choose for my next set! This would also make an excellent handmade gift for someone who has a new home, or who likes to decorate for special occasions.
I made a few minor changes to my placemats:
- Instead of using Pellon SF101 I used cotton batting
- I quilted along the seams of my placemat front before finishing
This was such a fun project, and I cannot wait to tackle window coverings next!
Be sure to stop by all of the other blogs along the book tour route:
