Good Neighbors Pincushion Party

Good Neighbors Pincushion Party
September 29, 2015 nicole

One of the first people I ever followed when I decided to quilt something was Crazy Mom Quilts blog by Amanda Jean Nyberg.  She shares tutorials, so so many inspiring projects and link ups every Friday to share our work. Amanda’s Finish it Friday post really encouraged me to work on my projects each week knowing that I could share them on her blog and then find other amazing quilters who were linked up there as well. She has inspired me from the first moment I ever thought to make a quilt so it is an extreme honor to be a part of the Good Neighbors Pincushion party, celebrating her new line (by the same name) for Connecting Threads.

Amanda has been in the quilting community for a long time so she has seen different styles of fabrics come and go, and I really think she went the right direction with her fabric line. It has the perfect blend from each color – as I tried to communicate through my pincushion. There are light medium and dark variations on each color, by how much white is used as the background or as a detail.

Maybe I am a sucker for rainbow fabrics – I tend to use them a lot – but I just love how perfect these are used together in one project. Before cutting up the fabric given to me I was thinking, how am I going to fit all of these fabrics into one pincushion? So the only answer was to just do it! I added a strip of fun fabric measuring tape ribbon I found in the Target $1 bin as a place to pin my wonder clips to. I tend to use those just as much as straight pins these days and it’s nice to have a little spot to hide them from my son. Why do kids love those things so much? I am always buying new ones because they keep disappearing into my sons room!

This pincushion is a bit larger than what I usually make but is a fun shape that fits right under my sewing machine table. You were probably expecting some variation of a hexie pincushion weren’t you! Hahaha, I actually almost made one (I still have fabric left so maybe that will be next!)

I got to pull out my rainbow pins and wonder clips for this one 🙂

Thanks for coming by today for my stop on the Good Neighbors Pincushion Party! The collection is now available and is very well priced at $5.96/yard! To find out more about this fabric be sure to stop by Connecting Threads and look for the Good Neighbors Collection by Amanda / Crazy Mom Quilts!

P.S. they are letting me give away a charm pack of the entire line! Just leave a message telling me what you would make with the charm pack and I will randomly choose a winner this Friday! (This is open to U.S. / Canadian residents only due to shipping)

I have had 3 grandchildren added to my family in the past 9 months, and so far only one of them has gotten a quilt from Grandma. I think I would add some white solid to the pack and see what I could make in a toddler-size quilt. (By the time I get it done, they’ll all be out of the baby stage, most likely!)

  2. Lori Morton 2 years ago

  4. Kathy E. 2 years ago

Oooh, I am crazy about your pincushion and need one too! When sewing, I’m trying to stick my pins in the pincushion without taking my eyes off the running machine and sometimes I miss, so this is an excellent solution. Plus, it’s so colorful and fun! Yep, this is what I’ll make with the charm pack. Thanks!

  5. Helen 2 years ago

Your pincushion is fantastic. The shape is unique and practical! If I win the charm pack, I would probably make a colorful, bright charity quilt for the kids’ chemo unit where I donate quilts.

  6. jeanne e. 2 years ago

  17. Wendy S 2 years ago

I have been very inspired by all these wonderful pincushions this month. So 1st I would have to pick my favorite and then what is left over would make it into pot holders. I’m making some bright, cheery, & scrappy pot holders to give to my girl friends, sisters, & Mom. The holidays are around the corner!

  18. Elena B 2 years ago

I would make this clever pincushion! Just lovenit, especially the place for wonderclips. Well done!!

  19. Jennifer 2 years ago

Your pincushion is quite unique and I really like the idea of a long one like this sitting right in front of my machine. I spend a lot of time bumbling around looking for pins so this might help with that : ) I love the perky freshness of Amanda Jean’s fabrics so I would probably piece a table runner or add some solids to the charm pack and sew up some placemats.

  20. Anita 2 years ago

    Your pincushion is fantastic!
I would use the charm pack for a sewing machine cover.

  36. Debbi 2 years ago

I would make a patchwork teddy bear pillow or maybe a pin cushion, or maybe incorporate it in a spring wall hanging…so many ideas, so little time! I LOVE your idea of putting tape on the pincushion to hold your wonder clips. Mine hide in a Celestial Seasonings tea tin when they are not in use so my daughter does not “borrow” them but this would be great to have when as a place to park them while sewing with them.

  37. Susan K 2 years ago

So much fun – love your pin cushion! I would make a cover for my sewing machine!

    Maybe a handbag.

  41. Marcelle 2 years ago

Cute pin cushion! I usually avoid the dollar spot at Target, but that ribbon is super!

  42. Anne Marie 2 years ago

I would make a pincushion like yours – love the oblong shape.

  46. Diane B 2 years ago

    Nicole,
Love the measuring tape to hold the binding clips. $1 at Target—SCORE!
W/Good Neighbors it’s the perfect rainbow for a pillow…which would be behind my back on my sewing or reading chair. Thanks for sharing your rainbow…there’s a pot of gold awaiting you!

  47. karen 2 years ago

Amanda Jean saved the best for last–your pincushion is totally delightful! I just love her new fabric and would definitely start with a mini mini. I just quickly glanced at your first photo before I began reading and smiled because I thought you had a little row of rainbow colored cars lined up–seemed like such a touch of whimsy—which is a very long way of saying–I can see all kinds of reasons that your son would abscond with your clips 🙂

  48. Shasta Matova 2 years ago

What a clever idea to make a super long pincushion to showcase all the beautiful rainbow of fabric. I’m not sure what I would make if I won, but I have a new bed, so I would probably make a pillow or a runner for the edge of the bed.

  49. Bonnie 2 years ago

Love your pincushion! The measuring tape for wonder clips was a great idea. I would like to make a table topper with the charm pack. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  50. rrjane011749 2 years ago

These fabrics would make an adorable baby quilt!

  51. Debby 2 years ago

I love this pincushion. I made a similar one for my machine. It is a similar shape, but a little smaller and I was able to tie it right around the side of my machine so it is right there. It isn’t very pretty though. I would love to make a new one!

  52. Lodi Srygley 2 years ago

We need a new name – Wonder Clip Cushion! I would make a Sew Together Bag as I’ve always admired the ones Amanda Jean has made!

  53. Linda Smith 2 years ago

It is time to make a colorful pillow for my hubby. He loves bright colors and the little pillow he uses behind his back when he works at the computer is shabby.

  60. Suzanne 2 years ago

Wow, your pincushion is so wonderful. I love how very long it it and how you used the twill tape to for clips. If I were to win the charm pack, I’d be tempted to make a pincushion a la Amanda Jean but a mug rug would also be a fun use.

  61. Buffy 2 years ago

What a seriously good idea for a pin cushion!! I love that it shows anything goes…what creative ideas sewists have! Love it. With these fabrics I’d love to make a doll quilt for my daughter’s baby Iona…she keeps telling me baby Iona is asking for her own blanket! 🙂

We spent weekends together bird watching and drinking tequila. 😛
